Inverness is a city in northern Scotland. Inverness was one of the chief strongholds of the Picts, and the site of the Battle of Culloden in 1746 and Loch Ness are not far from the city. Inverness is now the administrative centre for the Highland council area and it is promoted as the capital of the Highlands of Scotland. The population of Inverness is approximately 50,000.
